Why I love Weezy >>>
So, if you you know me, you know that my latest obsession is Lil Wayne, and pretty much anything that involves Mr. Make it Rain (on them hoes).
Honestly, if you would’ve asked me like a month ago who Weezy was, I would’ve had little to no idea. Mainly because I just never really branched out to “mainstream hip-hop”. I listen to the occasionally underground stuff, but for a while I was all indie rock and indie punk all the time. And don’t worry, I’m still all about a mosh pit and some wailing guitars backed by pounding drums and a thumping bass. I have been cheating on you though, dear punk rock angst.
Why, you ask. Well, have you listened to anything by Lil Wayne, at all. Anything from Tha Carter I, II or III? Or go back to Hot Boys or his really early solo albums? Or even some other rapper’s song? Listen to it. From the hilarious to the serious, Lil Wayne is the poo. Smell it.
Pitchfork puts it best in their 2008 review of Tha Carter III…
Just as the record’s cover playfully skews the Ready to Die/Illmatic baby-picture formula with Photoshopped tattoos, Wayne updates what it means to be the best rapper alive here. Gangster dandy. Fender-slinging sex god. Intergalactic prankster. It’s all in him.
He’s the best, what can you do?
P.S. He’s touring, so if you can get to a show. You can catch me at the August 9th show in Atlanta.
AND he has a new album coming out, too. It’s called The Rebirth, the first single is called “Prom Queen”. You can listen to the song and see the video on my YouTube page which is linked on the right side of this blog.
